Niederau Niederau is a peaceful resort, ideal to visit in escape of the crowds of more popular Austrian resorts. It is the main resort in the Wildschönau Valley, which offers 70km of broad and mainly gentle pistes. There are a number of other ares which are worth visiting (Auffach and Oberau). Most of hotels are within 5 minutes of the lift and Niederau is a good place for beginners & early intermediates.
Wildschonau ValleyThe Wildschonau consists of 4 villages - Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach. It is hard not to enjoy the relaxed skiing on the north facing slopes with an impressive backdrop of the Kitzbuhel Alps. |

Niederau Family Activities The Wildschonau valley as a whole offers a number of alternatives to just skiing and snowboarding.
You can paraglide over the mountains enjoying the views, or take in the scenery on a snow shoe walking trip. Floodlit tobogganing and sleigh rides are also great fun.
There is a fireworks display in Oberau on the 1st of January each year.

Ski Niederau The north facing slopes, Lanerköpfl and Markbachjoch in Niederau were developed into pistes in 1947. Niederau slopes are small but a lovely place for beginners to start skiing or snowboarding.
The Kropfrader and Mittermooser lifts are easier slopes on the wide ridge at the top, great for intermediates, and there are runs through the woods down into the village for those wanting to push is a bit more,
Hochberg, Stöck and Sixtwiesen range from dark red to deep black and only for advanced skiers. The Märchenwiesen Valley run is the only one where snow cannons can be used and it is classed as a red run.
 A free bus can take you to Auffach where most of the runs are red. The low altitude can play havoc with the snow but it's not a bad place to begin as a number of British have found.
There are also links with the Wildschonau ski Area which has 70km of skiing on 47 piste, served by 26 lifts.
Cross Country - there are over 50km of trails across the valley to explore

This is a cosy wooden hut at the top of the gondola offering Tyrolean specialities. The large terrace is great to eat on and catch some sun.

Stayed in the Hotel Sonnchein – very comfortable and friendly and accommodating staff. The skiing was fantastic for intermediates…perfect for us – guess if you wanted to really test yourself…you may want to go further afield! We had great snow conditions and a brilliant holiday…made better by the honestly priced ski hire with you guys at Snowbrainer!

Stayed in the Harfenwirt which is very convenient for the nursery slopes. My two sons were booked into lessons with Red Ski School and they were very helpful.
The Margreiter rental shop we booked through Snowbrainer were very helpful, changed my boots a couple of times until i found the best shape. All in all a very easy process and will book online next year - thank you Alex
