Burton NZ Open kings off the 2011 Global Open series
The Cardrona Alpine Resort in the Cardrona Valley of Wanaka NZ will once again play host to the Burton New Zealand Snowboard Open (NZO) from August 10-14, 2010. Although taking part in 2010, it is actually kicking off the 2011 Global Open Series for Burton and they usually like to start in style with this event and set a high standard for snowboarding events throughout the following year. Burton, free style funsters that they are, center the event around Half Pipe and Slope style disciplines. Against advice from the locals, prizes for the winners is in a monetary form rather than sheep or lord of the rings paraphernalia , so there is a 6000 NZD prize for the male and female riders who take first place in these competitions and there is a 50,000 NZD prize purse in total to go to the talented snowboarders. Never been to Cardrona before?
Cardrona is about an hour from Queenstown and 40 minutes from Wanaka in the south island of NZ. If you haven't skied New Zealand before Cardrona encapsulates what's great there is good weather, clockwork snow fall and wide open terrain. If you happen to be in New Zealand, get yourself there and watch the events which are free to the public (although lift passes may need to be bought to see certain events) and if not, book a flight and take the opportunity to see an amazing competition in an unbelievable country. There will be an opening party for further entertainment, and there is plenty to do in the gorgeous Wanaka and Queenstown. Here is a good website to visit for Wanaka Accommodation for the wise ones reading this article
