Global Warming creates Early Snowfalls in Austria
11/11/2009 21:00:53
| Reports from Austrian weather forecaster ZAMG that early snowfalls in Austria are due to global warming may concern many. For winter tourism and winter sports enthusiasts it's 'bitter sweet' news. The concerns for out environment is also being weighed up with the thoughts of a great snow base - always good news for skiers and snowboarders, leaving them excited about the forthcoming season.
ZAMG said the provincial cities of Innsbruck,
Salzburg and St Polten are expected to receive snowfall earlier than
normal, breaking the early snowfall record in 2007.
The Austrian Alps recieved heavy October snowfalls a few weeks ago and with an additional 25cm of powder falling last Sunday on Austrian glaciers in Hintertux, Pitztal and 30cm on the Stubaier glacier on Monday things are definitely looking in good shape for skiers.
ZAMG has warned that the snowfall could lead to dangerous avalanches in low lying areas.
Here at Snowbrainer.com - the lo-cost ski & snowboard rental service - we've noticed in the last couple of weeks an upturn in early bookings into many of the Austrian resorts featured on our website.
