Bad Gastein
Bad Gastein ResortThe Gastein Valley is famous for its spas and wellness centres - there are 17 thermal springs producing 5 million litres of Radon enriched water each day. Bad Gastein is the most well know town set amongst a large gorge valley and attracts an ever increasing number of British skiers who enjoy the massive waterfall roaring through the centre of town. A word of warning it is probably best to have a car to enjoy the whole ski area as the bus service is somewhat limited.
Bad Gastein has much to offer both the keen skiier and those that enjoy the relaxed side of Apres ski...these being the incredible spas in this beautiful mountainous area. The main resorts are in varied locations in spa towns; this is good however, because of the modern creature comforts that these spas include, it means a little of the Austraian charm and tradition is lacking.

Bad Gastein Restaurants
Like most of Austria, it is the hotels that take the majority of the business. Otherwise why not try the Bahnjof (06434 2676) or the cosy HofKeller (0643420370) a wood pannelled restaurant serving memorable fondues and raclettes. |

| Nightlife.. |

Bars, Clubs and Nightlife in Bad Gastein The bars at the bottom of the Stubnerkogel gondola are usually busy for the late children amongst us try out the Silver Bullet bar at the Hotel Salzburger (06734 20370) which shows snowboard videos and loud music. There is a disco at the Gatz Music Club (06434 20370) that goes on and on! The Hirschenhutte in the Angertal is a good place to apres ski. For those amongst us who have perhaps seen our better party days (you are never to old to remember) should take a visit to the Bellini bar and the Ritz cocktail bar before heading for the casino to spend the pension fund...or what's left of it!

Bad Gastein Hotel
Lots to choose from and we at Snowbrainer have been recommended the Cordial Sonotel (00436 434 25010) www.cordial.at which is close to the lifts of the Grankogel ski area. It has a great wellness centre and is located on the infamous Gastein cascades. The Hotel Salzergerhof 0043 643420370 is recommended and comes with a readymade drinking venue whilst the Wildbad 0043 64 34 37610 has its fans. OK so the next recommendation is not great for the skiing but wait a minute.... the Gruner Braum 0043643425160 www.grunerbaum.info is in the middle of nowhere, in fact 20 mins from the slpes but it is simply fab. An old world retreat with the most wonderful wellness centre. Non skiers and skiers alike will love it. If it's chalets that you fancy then why not take a look at the wonderful chalets on offer at www.simplychalets.co.uk? With a fantastic choice of chalets for small and larger groups you can be sure to fulfill all of you're accommodation requirements here. |

Intermediates - Very Good place to go for those long leg sapping runs. Everybody should visit at least once!
Beginners - rather scattered but the main slope at Bad Gastein is a little too steep for comfort.
Snowboarders - This is a half decent park in Grossark area and it is exclusively for boarders. It has a half pipe, 2 x quarter pipe, a selection of jumps ranging from 3M to 10M. On the slopes wathch our for the drag info.

Bad Gastein Ski Runs Bad Gastein is widely recognised for its extensive range of spas as well as the great ski and snowboarding it has to offer too. Although Bad Gastein is not widely known internationally; the Gastein valley has a range of impressive slopes. Many of the runs are pretty challenging although probably more suited to confident intermediates on red runs as opposed to keen and experienced experts. The Gastein valley comprises of 5 mountains; however, only 2 of these mountains are linked and with an appallingly unreliable bus service you are best off having a car to transport you to the other mountains to sample the skiing and snowboarding runs on offer at these.
Snowbrainer have come up with our top 5 most popular...take a look and see if you agree with us!
- Kreuzkogel - A black run with a height of 2685m this ski run offers spectacular views across the ranges whilst providing you with challenging skiing and snowboarding.
- Angertal - Another black run with spectacular views of the Gastein valley; the Angertal run is 1200m; encompassing many exciting challenges for the ski and snowboarder.
- Kleine Scharte - A red run leading right down to Bad Hofgastein; the Kleine Scharte run is 2050m offering the confident intermediate a lengthy ski and snowboard run with demanding obstacles yet highly enjoyable!
- Stubnerkogel - Another red run favoured by all at Snowbrainer as well as many frequent Bad Gastein visitors; the Stubnerkogel run is 2245m and features many obstacles for the keen intermediate skier and snowboarder.
- Our final ski and snowboard run is advising you all to explore the red and black runs of the Dorfgastein region further across the Gastein valley - you can be sure to explore many red and black runs for both intermediate and experienced skiers.
