About The Resort..

Ski Ischgl

Ischgl is a great resort is on the Swiss/Austrian border with plenty of charm and fantastic skiing.  The town has a compact pedestrianised centre with a fantastic array of shops, restaurants, bars and hotels. The apres ski in Ischgl is widely acknowledged as being one of the best in Austria. The drinking starts early and finishes late on the mountain and then in stripbars, a Pacha nightclub, sports bars and plenty of other alcohol selling establishments.

Ischgl is comprised of many traditional ski chalets. Yet, whilst the ski chalets and accommodation are of a traditional style, the overall impression that the town gives is more swanky and ostentatious than refined and tasteful. The best place to stay is close to the SilvreHabahn lift in the centre of town.  There is a moving walkway from town to the other two lifts  - the Pardatschgratbahn and Fimbabahn - which is a real bonus. The money which has been recently invested in Ischgl has paid-off, the resort is fast becoming one of the top resorts in Austria and will come highly recommended from a number of sources, not least Snowbrainer.

Ischgl is popular with snowboarders and has wide, well groomed slopes that are served well by plenty of board friendly gondolas and high speed chair lifts. Keen snowboarders will be pleased to know that Ischgl is home to one of Austria's best terrain parks.

Resort Restaurants

 Ischgl Restaurants

Ischgl_RestaurantsWith apres ski at Ischgl a major attraction factor for this superb ski resort - you will find a number of restaurants to suit a wide variety of palates and culinary preferences.

For a romantic meal set in traditional surroundings you can be sure that the Paznauner Stube at the Trofana Hotel will not disappoint...the kitchen is run by celebrity chef Martin Sieberer.  A nine course spectacular meal is on offer - this is one not to be missed if celebrations are in order!

For great pizza restaurants we like the wood fired Salz and Pfeffer T: 0043 544 591 956.
Indochine  T: 05444 529 357 is recommended for when you get bored of everything else and fancy a change from the Austrian cuisine you will have been enjoying.

Nightlife..

Ischgl Bars, Nightlife and Apres Ski

Ischgl_Apres_SkiApres ski in Ischgl bars is big and certainly not for the faint hearted!  With a wide number of lively ski bars for you to choose from whether its a lively club with dancing and cocktails or a local bar with traditional drinks, Ischgl will not disappoint you.

The Trofana Alm is a lively music fuelled pub with plenty of dancing...then at 7pm it is transformed in to a stunning atmospheric candle-lit restaurant serving Tirolean specialities and a number of other tasty cuisines.

Pacha of Ibiza fame is here as well, although not as good as the real thing it's still well worth a visit.

Apres Ski Ischgl is not to be missed - try it and see for yourself!
Simply take a stroll along the main pedestrianised drag and spot the places with fun times to be had...if you have any great recommendations please do let us know by emailing us admin@snowbrainer.com

About The Mountain

Ischgl Ski Mountain

skiers and snowboarders on pisteSki Ischgl

Snowbrainer love Ischgl for its guaranteed snow, large ski area and long scenic runs. Ischgl is very good for intermediates and experts but, as with most things, not everyone is entirely catered for - in this case it is beginners who will not find Ischgl to be entirely first-time friendly.

For experts there are a few tricky blacks and some harder reds.  The best place to head is Palinkopf, where you can enjoy the tough runs down towards Bodenalp.

snowboard in mid jump

For intermediates, Ischgl is a perfect resort. There is mile after mile of gentle cruising on blues and reds, most of which is interconnected.  The long red down to Samnaun is a brilliant run for a confident intermediate.

Beginners should be wary of Ischgl.  There is no nursary area in the town; beginners have to take a gondola up to Idalp (which requires the purchase of a full lift-pass) to get onto the nursary slopes.  Once there, the slopes are good - snowsure and served by quick and safe lifts.  Some of the vast intermediate terrain is within a beginner's reach if they are confident and willing to pusch themselves a bit further.

Snowboarding Ischgl

Snowboarders who are into their freestyle should be heading to Ischgl.  It has one of the biggest and best snowparks in Europe, the SnowArt park, which held the first world championship for snowboarders. The park is really well stocked with kickers (for every ability), boxes, pipes and rails. There is also a big fun box, a boarder/skier cross course, a giant slalom, waves rides and much more.

Cross Country - 24km of tracks in the valley to choose from will keep you busy.

Mountain Restuarants

Ischgl Mountain Restaurants

Ischgl_Mountain_Restaurants Many mountain restaurants in Ischgl are often busy at peak times; being of a good standard you will often find that people tend to lounge around in the restaurants here for a while before heading back to continue their snow sports on the mountains. Two that please us at Snowbrainer were the Paznauner Thaya (which also does great apres ski) and Bodenalpe over in Switzerland try the Alp Trida Sattel.

Idalp Self-Service Restaurant - Ischgl
Seats 480 peope and has an Ice bar, a kindergarten and a good deck to catch the sun

Hollboden Self-Service Restaurant
Well made pizzas and pasta dishes as well as traditional Austrian specialities are available here. Large outdoor seating area as well as a glass pavilion.

Panorama Restaurant - Ischgl
Great view - relax at the bar or head to the restaurant or terrace for some food

Alpenhaus Restaurant - Ischgl
Stone and glass modern design. Self service area with traditional cuisine, charcoal grill stand and terrace. If you are looking for a peaceful option head upstairs to the sit down waiter service restaurant

Pardorama Restaurant - Ischgl
Cool funky modern steel and glass design. Amazing views. We like the first floor a la carte Mediterranean style restaurant

Bistrot Gampen
Situated in the Gampenbahn valley it's great hidden gem for a bit of sunny day sunbathing

Nearby Resorts

Ski Ischgl Nearby Ski Resorts

Ischgl offers plenty for the keen intermediate and advanced skier; however if you're after exploring further afield why not try out Samnaun 1840m (6,040ft), Kappl 1260m (4,135ft) or See 1050 (3440ft). All of these areas are wonly a short distance away either in the car or on the local buses provided. However; these resorts are still mainly popular for intermediates and the more experienced skier. This pocket of the Tyrolean area doesn'tcater for beginners particular well with many of the nursery slopes being in much lower altitudes and down near the town.

Ischgl Ski Pass

The Silvretta Area lift pass gives you access to Ischgl and Galtur. You can also ski down into Samnaun in Switzerland. Resorts within easy driving distance to Ischgl also include: Kappl (8 km), St Anton (12 km), Pettneu (15 km).

Shopping

Shopping Ischgl

Ischgl_ShoppingIschgl has a wide range of fantastic snow sports shops as well as great stores for many other winter and outdoor sports.  Much of the shopping in Ischgl is impressive and pretty upmarket at that too...with Prada and Versace stores all presenting their fine collections seasonally.  A number of restaurants and shops in Ischgl can be accessed by a gondola - useful for the non-skiers in the party who want to join in the apres ski up on the mountains!

Ski and Snowboarding Runs Ischgl

Ischgl has some of the most fantastic ski and snowboarding for advanced and intermediate skiers and snowboarding. With some incredible off piste runs to explore with many challenging obstacles in tow you can be sure to have some testing and tackling times with these great snow sports. Check out the following Snowbrainer tried and tested runs in this fantastic Austrian ski resort; if you disagree with us, let us know by emailing us admin@snowbrainer.com - we'd love to hear from you!

  1. From the highest point of 2,872m (9,422ft) - to get here take the draglift from the top station of the Idjochbahn up to the Greitspitz. From here you will find 3 spectacular black runs...particularly popular is the 14a route which takes you on travels down to the Hollenkar valley.
  2. A particular good black run in the Paznauer Taya run - this route is under used and the slopes are often very empty as most people are enjoying long lazy lunches at the bottom station of the Hollspitzbahn chairlift at the Pznauer Taya restaurant.
  3. Come off the Idjochbahn on run No 64 and take a right...here you will find superb cruising for skiing and snowboarding.
  4. Some superbly challenging and spectacular views can be seen at Idalp...a wide range of blues and reds for keen intermediates to tackle.

Cheers for the great discounts on the snowboard hire in Ischgl. We had a fantastic time – the nightlife was brilliant – admittedly there was a group and we were up for fun and games. We went to Ischgl for a ski holiday and loved the place. My only complaint would be the prices , I blew the budget in a couple of days. Hotel Trofana, booked by my girlfriend was very good, everything you'd expect from a 5 star rating.

Firstly thanks for the discounted ski rental. Never thought you could save as much as we did on line. Great service and great prices. Now as promised a little bit about Ischgl, the singles ski party capital. we had a great time drinking our way through the various bars before hitting the clubs. Great people, skiing wasn't bad either but if you want a party head to Ischgl.
