Bansko Recently opened Bansko set in the scenic Pirin National Park is leading the way for ski resorts in Bulgaria. Around the central part of town you will find some pretty impressive architecture and a new hub is being built near the gondola. Euros are accepted in Bansko but lots of shops still use the local currency the Lev. The best part of the town is the charming center and most like the non commercial feel of the place. In recent years it has become a favored resort for British skiers looking for a good value skiing holiday.

| About The Mountain |
Ski Bansko Before 2004, you used to head up the 12km to the mountain via Army Jeeps before jumping on drag lifts, now this work is done by a 8 person gondola. Today the resort claims that all of the pistes have snow making equipment on them whilst many of the slopes face North and are well groomed by Bulgarian standards. Lack of challenging pistes for experts is a problem, however there is a decent amount of tree skiing to keep you amused. There are a number of red runs for intermediates with a variety of difficulty. There are around 5 ways to come down the mountain and there is a number of of nursery slopes for beginners. One issue that you may need to face is the possibility of queues when getting up the mountain in the morning(so get up early).

Bansko Mountain Restaurants A variety of modern places to eat in but don't get overexcited. The best are those with outdoor bars. Be careful to get there early if you fancy sitting down! And when sat, try out a good value char-grill. The Platoto is recommended.

Ok so were expecting a few queues in the morning because we had done our research before we left but to be honest they were no worse than skiing in France when the French half term is on after you got up the first lift. We actually thought a lot of the lifts were better than we had been led to believe. (nice surprise) We had some excellent value meals, ok not gourmet but there again not gourmet prices and let’s be honest most of us go to Bansko because it is great value.
