There are 3 basic topographical areas, the Jura Mountains up in the north, The Swiss plateau (middleland) and the Swiss Alps in the South. The famous Matterhorn mountain is situated on the border of Italy in Valais. with so many mountainous regions it's not suprising the Swiss love Skiing and mountaineering.
